Attend a Job Fair

Career fairs are an excellent way to meet employers hiring for full-time, part-time and internship positions. Job fairs coming up this fall can be found on our Events page. Lists of attending employers can be found in Jobs4Cats and in the Career Fair Plus App.

Tips and Tricks for Career Fair Success:

  1. Dress Professionally: The first impression is the most important step in beginning to network with employers. Dress business casual to business formal to all Career Fairs!
    • We offer a Career Closet! Full of clothes, FREE for you to borrow.
    • Hours of operation:
      • Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
  2. Resumes: Being able to hand something tangible to employers benefits your ability for both a follow-up and potential job offer.
    • Pay careful attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation, and writing style
    • Organize information in a logical fashion
    • Keep descriptions clear and to the point
    • Limit to one page if possible
    • Use a simple, easy-to-read font
    • Need somewhere to print them? Our Career Lab is available for printing! (Click the link for directions!)
  3. Elevator Speech: Think of this as a "30-second commercial". It is a clear message, about you, 30 seconds or less.
    • Name
    • Major
    • Training and education for the position you are seeking
    • What are your strengths?
    • What can you provide the employer?
  4. Research: Once you have some career options in mind, learn as much as you can about that career or organization. As you become more informed about the organization or career field, you will be able to ask more relevant questions while attending the fair.
  5. Breathe: Employers are here to hire YOU! Shake off your nerves, and take the next step to your future!

*NOTE: Need additional help preparing for a career fair? Make an appointment to meet with a Career Counselor or Career Advisor.

Non-Texas State Job Fairs

There are many opportunities to attend job fairs across the state of Texas--not just here at Texas State. Be sure to check out other Central Texas area schools' websites for a complete listing of upcoming fairs.
