Career Counseling
• Individual Career Counseling
Students are encouraged to discuss their choice of major, as well as related career plans, with the counseling staff of Career Services. Appointments for these services are recommended at least 2 - 3 days in advance. Our professional staff is also available to review resumes and cover letters, and offer suggestions for possible improvement.
• Assessment Inventories
Career assessments can help students understand their skills, interests, personality traits, work values, and how these relate to majors and jobs. If you are interested in an assessment, contact Career Services at 512.245.2645, and counselors can assist you with the assessment process.

• Information on Majors
More than 40 handouts provide information on each major with regard to related areas of the work world, typical employers, professional associations, and job search strategies. Everything from Health to Communication to Business to Education, we have a helpful array of take-home information for practically every occupational field.
• Career Resource Library
Our career library offers a wide range of books, magazines, and brochures addressing all occupational areas. Career books, occupational guides, and directories can be used to clarify and confirm your initial impressions about a career field, and to obtain occupational descriptions. Ten computers are also available for your career planning and job search needs.

• Job Shadowing
Students have the opportunity to spend a half day, a day, or longer with an employer in their field of interest during the Winter Break. Job Shadowing provides valuable insight regarding a full range of professional occupations. Areas of interest to students may include the workplace environment, the workers, and their duties and responsibilities.
• Internships
Students interested in pursuing an internship or summer job can visit JOBS4CATS for a list of opportunities in their field of study. In doing so, students can learn more about their upcoming careers and explore their choices. To further discuss their options, students can schedule an appointment with the Assistant Director for Experiential Learning. Read this information regarding getting an internship!

• Summer Jobs
Students who will need to gear up for their job search can visit Job4Cats for a list of positions as early as the beginning of the spring semester. To find out more information about pursuing a summer job click here. Job and Internship Postings.

Job Search Strategies
• Resume and Cover Letter Critiques
Professional resume and cover letter reviews are offered through half-hour individual appointments with our counselors. We will help you edit any document you might require for employment application. Students may make use of the 24-hour critique service - resumes or cover letters may be dropped off one day and picked up the next.

• Practice Interviews
Schedule a practice interview with a counselor anytime during the year. If you wish, the interview can be videotaped for later review, or feedback can be offered during the course of an untapped interview. In addition, seminars may be scheduled once each semester, with actual employers conducting the practice interviews for the benefit of students.
• Guest Speaker for Presentations
Staff members are available to speak to student organizations and classes on topics such as career planning, resume developing, interviewing skills, job search strategies. To obtain a form requesting a speaker click here. Complete the form and return it to our office.
Employer Connections
• On-Campus Recruiting
Juniors and Seniors can sign-up for on-campus interviewing using Jobs4Cats. A resume must be attached to your student profile to be eligible.
• Job Vacancies through Jobs4Cats
Register with Career Services' Jobs4Cats to view part-time jobs, internships, co-ops, summer jobs and full-time employment opportunities. This is a password-protected system, so you must go through the registration process on our web site, beginning with Job and Internship Postings.
• Resume Referrals to Employers
Employers contact our office on a regular basis requesting resumes to help fill their needs. Resumes of students registered with our office via Jobs4Cats are forwarded to the employer. Remember, you must be registered with Career Services to be referred to employers.

Job Fairs
• Fall Job and Internship Fair
Visit with employers regarding careers, internships, part-time, and summer jobs and/or full-time employment upon graduation.
• Construction Job Fair
Meet construction professionals discussing employment opportunities with their organizations and agencies. This job fair is held each semester.
• Health Professions and Social Services Job Fair
A great opportunity to visit with employers regarding health professions and social services careers.
• Spring Job and Internship Job EXPO
Held each Spring, EXPO provides a great opportunity to meet and interview with employers representing business, government, and non-profit agencies regarding full-time employment, as well as internships and summer positions.
• Virtual Part-Time Campus Job Fair
A great opportunity to find an on-campus part-time job. Numerous university departments are represented, discussing both regular wage and work-study jobs.
• Summer Job Fair
