PayPal wants to double its employment in Austin  In a little over a year in Central Texas, PayPal has grown to 200 people, most of them software developers, at its new Northwest Austin technology center.  Now, the online payments company wants to double its employment here by the end of this year. Texas Unemployment Rate Returns to Record Low of 4.1 Percent
Employers Add 15,400 Jobs in April

AUSTIN — The April statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.1 percent, down from 4.3 percent in March and 4.4 percent in April 2007, once again matching the record low. The 4.1 percent April unemployment rate in Texas remains far below the U.S. unemployment rate of 5.0 percent. Seasonally adjusted nonagricultural employment in Texas grew by 15,400 jobs in April.

Job Hunting in an Unsteady Economy
The recent rise in the U.S. unemployment rate -- 5.0% in April -- indicates that fewer jobs are being created, but the shrinkage may not affect job-seekers in some fields, such as technology or health care. Unemployment Rate Hits 4.1 Percent Record Low
AUSTIN — The February statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 4.1 percent, down from 4.3 percent in January and 4.5 percent in February 2007, reflecting lows not seen since the mid-1970s. The 4.1 percent February unemployment rate in Texas remains significantly below the U.S. unemployment rate of 4.8 percent.

Texas Employers Add 28,000 Jobs in January
AUSTIN — Texas seasonally adjusted nonagricultural employment grew by 28,000 jobs in January. Texas employers now have added 277,200 jobs over the past 12 months, for an annual job growth rate of 2.7 percent.
