Texas State University students win the San Antonio Colleges and Universities Career Centers Association Achievement Awards.
Shikma Gurvitz, an international studies major and mass communications minor, received the SACUCCA achievement award for undergraduate students. Haley Dorris, a graduate student in the professional counseling program was also honored with the SACUCCA achievement award for graduate students.
The students are judged based on their resume, volunteer/work experience, organizations and affiliations, honors and/or awards received, GPA and a one page essay.
Recent Texas State graduate Erica Garza featured in BusinessWeek
Texas State graduate and current Enterprise Rent-A-Car Assistant Branch Manager Erika Garza is one of 15 former interns turned very
successful professionals featured in BusinessWeek. Erika did her internship at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in San Antonio and McAllen during the summer of 2006, and was named the Enterprise “2006 Intern of the Year”. She has since graduated, been promoted twice, and is currently the Assistant Manager of the McAllen Central location – one of the largest Enterprise rental operations in the South Texas Group.
Erika was a management major and was very active in the Texas State HBSA chapter while attending Texas State University. Enterprise Rent-A-Car representatives and recruiters originally met her at the 2005 Fall Job and Internship Fair, and later sealed the deal during an on-campus interview at Texas State Career Services.

Texas State Career Services Earns Prestigious Award of Excellence
San Marcos, TX – October 8, 2007 – Sherwin-Williams, the largest manufacturer and distributor of coatings in the United States, is proud to announce the presentation of the Award of Excellence to the Texas State Career Services Office.
The Sherwin-Williams Award of Excellence is a prestigious award given to select universities throughout the country for providing excellent career and education guidance. The selection committee considers many universities and the Texas State Career Services Office was chosen because of the long-standing partnership they have enjoyed with Sherwin-Williams.
Josh Dunn, Area Human Resources Manager for Sherwin-Williams will be presenting the Award of Excellence to Curt Schaefer, Director and Josie Garrott, Associate Director at the Texas State Career Fair at the Strahan Coliseum on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 4PM.
According to Tim Besson, Area Recruitment Specialist for Sherwin-Williams, “Curt and Josie and their staff have had a tremendous impact on our relationship with Texas State and its students. They are dedicated and committed to helping students and graduates find quality jobs in a competitive environment. We have hired several talented Texas State grads over the years into our Management/Sales Training Program. The quality education from Texas State has helped these graduates advance their career to various levels within the organization.”
One recent Texas State addition to Sherwin-Williams is Miss Stefanie Garrott, an Assistant Manager in Plano, Texas. She joined the Company in 2006 in the Management/Sales Training Program. In addition to management, Stefanie has been active in support of Sherwin-Williams’ recruiting and retention efforts in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Sherwin-Williams operates over 3,200 company-owned stores across the United States. The company finished 2006 with nearly $8 billion in sales and recently celebrated its 140th anniversary. They have also been recognized as a top company to work for and for offering a top entry-level position for new graduates.
